Origin:Oolong” is an English transliteration of the Chinese “wulong” meaning Black Dragon. In China, oolong teas are sometimes referred to as dark green teas. A Formosa-style oolong is derived from slightly more oxidation, using twisted and/or rolled leaves, more or less broken, producing a richer infusion. This style of oolong originated in Taiwan, formerly known as Formosa which means “beautiful”, and was named so by the Portuguese explorers of the island.

Brewing Suggestions & Servings Information (click here)

1 level teaspoon (or 2.5 grams) per 8oz cup of less than boiled water, preferably 195F or less, so as not to burn & damage these leaves. Adjust amount of tea according to your personal taste. Use more tea for a stronger brew. Use less tea for a milder flavor. Also, these leaves will unfurl while steeping, and reveal themselves to be larger than you will initially expect.

Brewing Tip: Traditionally when preparing Chinese teas, an initial rinsing of the leaves will help to awaken the tea, especially teas that are tightly rolled like a Pearl. Measure out your desired amount of tea. Pour less-than boiled water over the leaves till covered. Swirl the leaves in the water for approximately 10 seconds. You’ll see that the leaves have started to “relax”. Discard this water. Now begin brewing your cup of tea, pouring fresh water over the enlivened leaves, and steeping for 1-2 minutes. When you steep a cup of Gunpowder Pearl tea, each individual leaf will unfold. Once brewed, if you find the flavor to be too strong or tangy, try pouring away the first brew and taste the second. A lot of the caffeine content will also be eliminated in this way. This tea is an excellent choice for multiple steepings.

Sample size provides at least 4 servings. 1.5oz pkg makes approximately 17 brewed cups.
