Our autumnal darjeeling is 100% organically and biodynamically grown on the Makaibari Tea Farm in India. Since 1971, Makaibari has gone beyond the organic approach of not using chemicals to fertilize the plants, but also allowed native plants and herbs to grow alongside the plants instead of being pulled like weeds. This meant the tea plants could integrate naturally with the overall ecosystem of the rainforest creating a fully biodynamic and organic tea farm.

Included with MysTEAries box #2 is Cuppa Culture's unique“Emerald Gunpowder Pearls”. Gunpowder Pearls is a form of Chinese tea in which each leaf has been rolled into a small round pellet. Its English name comes from the tea’s resemblance to grains of gunpowder. Gunpowder tea production in China dates back to the Tang Dynasty 618–907.
Cuppa Culture’s Emerald Gunpowder Pearls is much finer than its classic predecessor with less caffeine making it enjoyable for any time of day. The taste and aroma are also softer and less bitter than what you would expect from the standard quality Gunpowder tea. The flavor profile is bold, slightly smoky, sometimes peppery and a little grassy or vegetal. These tea leaves will stay fresher longer than other green tea leaves due to the compressed form.

According to Grey family lore, the tea was blended especially with bergamot oil to help balance the flavor of minerals, like lime, in the water at Howick Hall in Northumberland. Earl Grey’s own-famous mixture was supposedly used by Lady Grey when entertaining in London, which is how it became so popular.
